Mahatma Education Society’s Pillais’ College of Education and Research, Chembur, organized an Indian Council of Social Science Research, (WRC), Mumbai, sponsored Workshop on Research Methodology in Social Sciences from 22nd to 26th July, 2013. The main objectives of the workshop were to acquaint the participants with the basics of Research, types of research and process, various research methodologies, web resources for Review of Related Literature, how to standardize tools, referencing and writing of research report.

The workshop was presided by Chief Guest Dr. G. G. Wankhede, Dean, School of Education, TISS, Guest of honour, Dr. Mrs. Kamal Patankar, Ex-Principal and PhD Guide, Principal, Dr. Sunita Wadikar, Pillais’ College of Education and Research, Chembur along with other dignitaries. Welcome address was given by Dr. Sunita Wadikar, Principal, Pillais’ College of Education and Research, Chembur. Asst. Professor. Vani Achari Ummadisingu, the Program Co-ordinator briefed the august gathering about the workshop. The Core committee and Organising Committee included the Faculty of Pillais’ College of Education and Research, Chembur. After felicitation ceremony, Keynote Inaugural address was given by the Chief Guest who emphasized on the present scenario of social science research and need for original quality research and motivated the participants to do good research with the help of various funding agencies. This was followed by the inaugural speech given by the guest of honour where she emphasized the need for research which contributed for societal upliftment and well-being.

The workshop was divided into ten sessions for five days which included two sessions per day, the resource persons were from Department of Education, University of Mumbai, Tata Institute of Social Sciences and KJ Somaiya Comprehensive College of Education Training and Research, Vidyavihar. Each session was very fruitful as resource persons could meet the participant’s expectations with their expertise. The sessions were interactive, with hands on experience using web resources. Paper presentations were at the end of the sessions. The workshop proved to be a great success with participants requesting to hold more such workshops in near future.
