On the occasion of International Organ Donation Day, Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai College of Education and Research Chembur, in collaboration with Soroptomist welfare Association (SIBC) organized a session on Organ Donation conducted by Regional and State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation, ROTTO-SOTTO. The main objective of this event was to create awareness among the B.Ed students about the need and importance of organ donation.

The experts from ROTTO-SOTTO who play a crucial role in organ transplantation were introduced. Ms. Sujata Ashtekar, Senior transplant coordinator, Regional Cum State Organ and Tissue transplant organization, West zone, Government of India project, chairperson of awareness activities of ZTCC and Mr. Kalpesh Mhatre, transplant co-ordinator and an experienced individual in the field of organ donation. This was then followed by the address given by Dr Reni Francis, Principal of PCER Chembur who welcomed the resource persons and highlighted on the vision of Pillai Group of Institutions and also introduced everyone to the Soroptomist Welfare Association (SIBC)

Ms. Sujata Ashtekar began the session where she informed about the significance of organ donation, need for Organ Donation, the acts passed on it and she also clarified all the myths regarding the donation process. She gave some scientific knowledge about the organs that can be donated and who can donate these organs. The later half or the session was conducted by Mr. Kalpesh who explained the steps to become a organ donor.
Both the speakers gave a very informative talk, which not only created awareness among students about organ donation but also provided a platform for students to clarify their queries about the organ donation. Their session also enlightened the students about the impact of organ donation, to those in need, giving them a second chance at life.
